The Chosen Charities for 2011
Send’em Off Smiling

Send'em Off Smiling is a registered charity which was founded in 1994
to provide school clothing and supplies for local children in need. We make use of teachers to identify those
children who will benefit most from the program. We know from teacher feedback that the program does an
exemplary job of "connecting the dots" between child poverty, learning readiness, and the future prospects of
these children.

Every child needs a good start to the day with a nutritious breakfast
and you can help us make sure the children in the Elgin Street community receive one!
Teachers know children come to school hungry and
Hungry to Help were the headlines we read in the Cambridge Times. The first paragraph reads It’s hard to fill the
mind when the belly is hungry. Elgin Street Public School is hoping to start a three day program….which is just not
enough. They are talking of using a levied fee of 25 cents per child but children living in poverty cannot obtain
even this small amount. So far fundraising efforts have come from the parent council’s fundraising efforts the
school is counting on a grant to start its breakfast program. Volunteers are desperately needed in order for this
school to secure a grant. We really hope this years run can help this special cause to help feed the children from
our very own community.

Nutrition for Learning has been a registered charitable organization
since 1997. Our mission is to enhance children’s ability to learn by ensuring that each child goes to school well
nourished.
